"As a trainer working with
retriever puppies on a daily basis, I was always looking
for a suitable puppy retrieving object. I tried
everything from small paint rollers to miniature
training bumpers with varying degrees of success.
Most pups wanted to carry these objects by the end,
creating an unbalanced condition and when I put a rope
on a min-bumper, they'd still just drag it around.
So one day I hit upon the idea of making a puppy bumper
with a dumbbell design. I saw an immediate
improvement in the pup's pick up and retention time of
carrying it properly.
I found that
when pups used my bumper during their puppy
hood, a good habit had been formed and the
transition to large bumpers was seamless.
I also built a squeaky sound into the bumper
to fire the pups up when they were
young. This established the trigger
needed to build the pup's momentum and
instinct to chase into frenzy. And
obviously, the black and white coloration
